I love how connections are made in the creative world. Meeting one person can lead to an incredible opportunity which leads to meeting more incredible people which leads to…..
You just never know what kind of doors each person will open in your world. You may have read my post about Flower Camp (i.e. Team Flower workshop with Kelly Perry). I made a choice, took a leap and spent 4 days with an incredible group of ladies perfecting our floral skills. Well, one of Kelly’s sweet flower friends is Ashley Beyer of Tinge Floral in Salt Lake City. When Ashley was coming to Nashville to work a wedding at Riverwood Mansion, Kelly connected the two of us and I spent a lovely weekend learning from Ashley and her sweet assistant, Brenna. We processed flowers and created garlands and spent our days playing in gorgeous, swoon-worthy blooms. The wedding was beautiful and included the talents of Ginny Au and Rylee Hitchner, to name a few. It was featured on Once Wed….
Fast forward 8 months and I’m planning my yearly SLC trip to ski with my sister when a thought struck me: “I wonder if Ashley would be interested in a one-on-one teaching adventure?!”. All she can say is ‘no’, right? I was thrilled when she agreed and we planned our bouquet-making afternoon. Imagine my excitement when I learned that Darcy Benincosa was going to come photograph our afternoon!! While Ashley walked me through her design process, Darcy worked her magic behind the camera. My sister even modeled for a few shots!
She started by working through a bouquet, while I watched and listened. From her choice of flowers to her thought process re: colors, I learned how her brain works with each creation. She had chosen the most beautiful pale, spring blooms to play with and the textures and combinations were stunning. Her finished product is breathtaking.
When it was my turn to get my hands dirty, I was ready. I followed her process and asked for her help as I combined garden roses with lilac and Japanese ranunculus.
I was so thrilled with the end result! I stared at it for hours and was so sad to leave it behind as I boarded a plane to come home. I worked with fritillaria and lilac for the first time and fell madly in love. I could hardly wait to see the scans!
Her understanding of depth and composition is so inspiring and her willingness to share her knowledge with others makes her a true gem. I’m awed at her kindness and love that she doesn’t take herself too seriously. She laughs at herself, excels in the art of frolicking and offers genuine encouragement. She is one of a kind and I treasure her friendship more than I can put into a single blog post. Thank you, Ashley, for an incredible afternoon and a wealth of knowledge. I’m so grateful for your sharing spirit and sweet friendship.
Be on the lookout for information from Ashley about workshop dates! Her first Film and Flora workshop was in incredible success and I don’t think she’s going to stop at one! If you are a passionate floral designer looking to further your knowledge and understanding of composition, color and depth, you need to spend time with this incredibly talented lady.
