Full disclosure: My cat destroyed my Christmas wreath. I needed a new one.
I have always loved fresh Christmas greens. The smell + the textures + the idea of snow (cause let’s be real: it was 70′ on Christmas Day!) = happy Emily! I knew I could make one. I knew I could teach people how to make one…
But the thought of hosting a workshop both excited and terrified me. Standing in front of a large group of people and trying to explain something makes me so nervous, but also, knowing I have something to share energizes me. The thought that no one would want to come deflates me. On a random, uneventful October day I decided to go for it; I was going to teach a wreath-making class in December.
With the help of my friends Meagan and Emily, the plans were underway. I researched and ordered supplies and secured a location while Meagan and her group of graphics geniuses worked on our virtual flyer. We were able to borrow tables and chairs from Emily’s church and my mom was coming up to make the bows (and make a wreath!). Emily helped work out the details for a goodies and hot chocolate station and Meagan gathered ideas for photographing and documenting the event.
I’d like to thank many business-owners in town for their “contributions” to my class. I foraged greens like a wild boar! I gathered magnolia, pine, spruce, hemlock, camellia, fir and cedar along with some other ordered greens from my wholesaler. We had SO MUCH product and the smell was incredible!!
And then we waited. Would anyone sign up?! Arguably, my biggest fear was that no one cared to come. Maybe I was the only pine-loving gal in town who wanted to make a fresh wreath for her door.
And they came! I had 6 beautiful students who made GORGEOUS (and large!) wreaths from my carefully gathered materials! After a detailed explanation, a short walkthrough and a gloss-over of our greens, I let the ladies get to work!
Aren’t their wreaths gorgeous!? The event was laid back and fun and easy and I am so excited it went well! I had some great feedback and sweet comments and I can’t wait to get ready for next year! Will you join us?!
