I absolutely love winter. I think that puts me in a minority group but there is something about the snow and the crisp air and the wildness of winter that I adore. I’ve posted these images SO many times. I’m excited to share the story with you of this our snowy winter shoot in Mammoth, California.
My in-laws owned a condo in Mammoth Mountain from 2007-2017. We tried to get out there about once a year and ski with family or friends. After I injured my knee skiing with my sister in Salt Lake a few weeks before, I knew I was going to be skiing less or maybe not at all on our upcoming Mammoth trip. I REALLY didn’t want to sit inside the condo all day, alone, even though the idea of reading by the fireplace for a whole day was enticing…
S0 why not put together an editorial shoot?! WITH SNOW!! I reached out to Christie with Mountainside Bride who is based in Mammoth and together we started pulling together the details. Because Mammoth is fairly small and wedding vendors are not plentiful, we pulled some of our favorites from across the country! Our tux came from Vegas and our dress from NC. My sweet friend, Alex Thornton, and I had worked on some projects together and I knew that her soft style and love of color was a REQUIREMENT to bring this shoot to life! The results were stunning!
Inspiration – Snowy winter shoot in Mammoth, California
I wanted to do something soft to contrast the mountain views. But also something bright enough to stand out against the snow. I landed on soft yellows, blush and peach and added a soft blue-gray in the details. I love pulling inspiration imagery together to set the tone and then making it our own through fun details and personality.

We hoped that there would be patches of snow. Strangely enough, Mammoth was having an incredible snow year and our landscape was COVERED! Although I originally hoped to shoot at Convict Lake, Christie took us up to Twin Lakes for the shoot. A frozen lake, stunning high peaks and plentiful evergreens set a beautiful scene. She brought along a vintage set of snowshoes, a gorgeous church pew and the most beautiful couple!
