Lately, I’ve received quite a few inquiries/questions about my role as a wedding planner and also a floral designer. I wanted to take a chance to address the ‘how’ and ‘why’ to hire Kennedy Occasions to plan and flower your event.
The biggest question: “How do you do both?”
I am lucky to have some of the best help around and although florals are labor intensive, I hardly notice it because it is a true passion of mine. Floral prep currently starts on Thursdays for me, where wedding/event startup takes place on Friday, at the rehearsal. Timelines and final details emails are sent earlier in the week so that when the flowers arrive on Thursday, I’m able to dive in! With the help of my assistants and interns, load in and set up with flowers is no different than without! We would help your florist load in anyway!
“Do you HAVE to be my floral designer?”
As sad as it may make me: No! You may choose whomever you would like to work with for your floral needs and as your wedding planner and/or stylist, I will work closely with them to ensure your plans/thoughts are executed well. Hiring an outsourced florist is never an issue.
“What is the benefit of hiring Kennedy Occasions as our floral designer?”
As your wedding planner and event stylist, I’m able to see your ENTIRE wedding vision. I helped create it! I can see where floral details will enhance the space or highlight the colors you’ve chosen. I can SHOW that to you in your mood board and explain it well in your design proposal. I’m able to create a unified, cohesive design for your event because I know the EXACT color of your mens’ suits and linen napkins. Another, less glamorous reason: As your planner, I’m already at your wedding! That means you don’t incur delivery fees or extra staffing charges to make your floral dreams come true!
“Will you be my floral designer only, ’cause I got this planning thing down and the coordination gig covered!?”
Sure thing. Many brides choose to plan their own weddings and I would welcome the chance to talk to you about your floral design needs without our planning and design services. Several venues even offer the service of a wedding coordinator (Note: these are different than “venue coordinators”… that’s a different blog post!) that may take care of your wedding day coordination needs, leaving my time completely free to focus on and design your beautiful floral creations!

Our floral design contracts are separate from our planning contracts and we will sit down and discuss the role that flowers will play on your wedding day. I can make suggestions on palette, types of blooms and overall composition of arrangements and bouquets and after a quote is drafted and a mood board created, we will sign the contract! Then I start ordering your beautiful blooms!
